Management is the only environment capable of administering food items; to build or edit food items you will have to navigate to this section.

Creating Food Items

  1. Navigate to the management environment (See sec. 3.1)
  2. Tap “Manage Menu” on the bottom navbar.
  3. Tap plus icon (bottom right)
  4. This will bring you to a form for building a food item
  5. Populate fields
  6. Press “Save”

Form Fields

Name

The name of the food item

Prep Time

An estimate of the time needed to prepare the item. In the kitchen environment, the food items for an open order are total to determine the aggregate prep time of the order.

Price

While Order Up does not yet integrate with POS (point of sale) devices, this field was provided to help track price points. (this is useful to help waiters easily answer questions around pricing.)

Food Type

Food type is a customizable field that is managed by users in the manager environment. Managers can define custom values for this field (discussed in sec. 3.2.1). In the waiter environment, while creating orders, food gets sorted by food type.

Ingredients (optional)

This is an optional list of ingredients that can be used to track purchasing demands and help waiters and kitchen staff determine food composition (this would be useful if a guest asks about the contents of a specific item or a kitchen worker is unfamiliar with an item)

Tags (optional)

Tags are an optional field that is customizable. Managers can build and manage tags (discussed in sec. 3.2.1). These tags can be used in the kitchen view to filter food items (useful if a kitchen has multiple departments each dedicated to producing specific food). Or it can be used to alert the user about important features (i.e. if a food item is Gluten Free)

Editing Food Items

Food items change over time. Maybe you added an ingredient or you want to update the price…

Regardless of why you want to update a food item Order up has you covered. You can navigate to the edit screen in two ways: traditional navigation or quick action (for information on these forms of navigation see sections below).

Once you’ve navigated to the edit screen you should encounter a view identical to the create screen, but with the fields populated with the current values. Simply make your changes and press save to update information.

Traditional Navigation

  1. Navigate to the management environment (see sec. 3.1)
  2. Select “Manage Menu” on the bottom navbar
  3. Tap on an existing food item:
  1. Tap Pencil icon (bottom right)
  2. You should now be on the edit screen

Quick Action

  1. Navigate to the management environment (see sec. 3.1)
  2. Select “Manage Menu”
  3. on the bottom navbar
  4. Long-press an existing food item:
  1. Tap “Edit”
  2. You should now be on the edit screen (pictured below)

Archiving Food Items

  1. Navigate to the management environment (see sec. 3.1)
  2. Select “Manage Menu”
  3. on the bottom navbar
  4. Tap on an existing food item:
  1. Tap “Pencil Icon” (bottom right)
